A Double Sonnet

Poem Artwork

Phoenix Arise
By La Belle Rouge

Wide sky-gates of a mystic universe
swing open when you offer your smile
and make me yours for better or worse
as your essence my heart doth beguile
what am I but breathless slave to desire
as my hungry soul inhales wanton sighs
kindling ignited by flames of your fire
as your beard lingers against bare thighs
into the night where forest nymphs hide
among rustling of wood’s ancient trees
where love’s sycophantic fantasies abide
trembling hearts and senses are seized
with scent, taste, of dark desire swayed
you are mine again until break of day

There none can say us nay, my lover
though the night boast a thousand eyes
thou alone shall all my secrets discover
on the phoenix of dead passion to arise
consume me now in the flames of ardor
and burn me to ashes with whispered fire
lexis only a poet owns to use for barter
dispel my winter with summer’s desire
more real the essence of love I remember
than arms and lips which cannot compare
to memories covered by deep december
when two of us, starving, feasted there
and do not love and lust become as one
when all pretense and reticence are done?

Strong passions are so evident in this meloncholy piece. How beutifully you ascribe to the desires of the heart and the thoughts of the mind as two meld into one...

Be always safe,
Karen

Love this one. The last two lines are a powerful statement which heals the artificial rift between heart body soul and the spirtual. Great statement which elevates the reader and that aint easy to do in just a few lines.

This is beautifully dreamy, Belle, keeping the reader fully engaged and yet wonderfully mystified by thoughts and feelings!

These two sonnets are so richly tapestried with rebirth in love and lust that it takes my breath away. Your experience is showing when you write like this. I guess I'll have to let my beard grow so I can leave a lasting impression on some thighs. ;-)

Good question... ...and thought-provoking too. Very nicely presented, Belle. Love and best wishes,

This is excellent crafting, Belle,
not only in structure but in understanding,
and your expression of feeling is of a fine order.

intriguing flow of passion in verse to seduce the morally strongest among men, let alone this shaky soul always at the edge of misdeed --- there is no labor in your work it flows as seamlessly as experienced virgin olive oil(ponder the concept for a moment) -- yes, I will lay me down whilst reading this over and over -- and should passion happen my way, indulge shamelessly 'til sated -- a thing of artistic beauty, you Belle, and this rendering -- I bid you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Pretence and reticence are reduced to mere ash as this lustrous Phoenix of desire rekindled arises. No one does The Bard better than The Belle. So lovely to read you again! Love always, Kate xx

Belle, I was just today, wondering where my Belle has been...Here you are. Wow, this brings me to a Shakespearn world, even better than the bard himself. Lovely work as usual. Good to read you again.

Peace, love and light,
Amber
