My little dog is dying
she's like a child to me
there is no way to save her
each day she grows quieter
when I pick her up, I notice
she is growing lighter while
a hateful tumor grows bigger
I love my little dog, Sweet Girl
she's sixteen years old and
until about a week ago she
was still a happy little spirit
now she sleeps long hours
and eats little while I watch
and pray to know when
she's beginning to be in pain
She's a fighter, my little dog
she won't give in, she'll fight
to the very end so I have to
make sure she isn't suffering
I can't bear to give her up
but I'll do what I have to do
I'll hold her in my arms when
it's time for her to sleep
I know it's the humane thing
to do but, oh God I love her
we have shared fifteen years
of each others lives, Sweet Girl
beyond the rainbow bridge
she'll be watching, waiting to
hear my voice, catch my scent
but oh God, how I'll miss her
Yes, we also had to take our fantastic feline, Sara, to the vet on a one-way journey to leave planet earth. I recently wrote a poem about her. Yes, we were totally devastated. We had her for 18 years. Now it's been about twelve days and we found two new cats in a pet rescue mission. We will name them, "Rocky" and "Balboa" because of their rocky fur pattern and playful nature. Today I noticed my wife bubbly with smiles for the first time in weeks. One of the two, Balboa, reminds us of our favorite cat, Sammy. We were going to call him Sammy Jr. but no cat will ever replace our original Sammy-Boy. So life goes on and new adventures await us with these two kittens. As you know many dogs need a good home. When the time is right, go for it. It will be so worth it and you will have unconditional love as a reward. Yes, the transition will not be easy but it will be worth it. God Bless You, John Michael
I had to put my dog Genie to sleep a few years ago it was the hardest thing I every did. She was 15 years old. I know what you are feeling very well. When the time came to let her go, I loved her enough to do just that. After all that is what love truly means. My heart is with you on this. I am here if you want to share, Love and hugs, and a friendship blanket, xo
Susan, I know I’m not at AD very often, ( not nearly as often as I was at a certain other website, and you and I both know which one) and I almost never leave comments at AD , for I’m elsewise in disposed, but this was very moving. Three years ago we had to have our little main coon cat put to sleep for she had grown incurable I’ll, and Leo, our tuxedo cat seemed to know what was going on. Yes pets are part of the family, and it hurts when they are ill. God bless you and your little dog. Lewis
A sweet goodbye to a loving friend and companion. I'm sure you will miss her, but dog's lives are short compared to ours and they go quite peacefully even while they're in great pain. My brother recently had to euthanize his 14-year-old golden retriever, Rocky. In a way I'm glad, that my little Pomeranian, Jazz died early so that he didn't have to face old age.
It is so very tough to have the light of our life's end. My little dog, Zoe died this year, and believe me, I see everywhere, even when I walk into the door she is there to greet me. Its horrible, Susan. Of course it is a fleeting thing, and she isn't really there, or is she?
My heart goes out to you and your family. It's a very sad time to watch our pets fall sick and suffer. I had gone through that with both my pets, Freddy and Big Boy Pride. Both were a devastating experience to me and my children.
May God bless your little angel and guide you to do the right thing for her.
Oh, how my heart dropped and sobbed for your sweet little dog! You have poured your heart out with your words but, yes, how you'll miss her. Beautifully written!
I’ve encountered many non-human creatures on my life’s journey.
I have found each and every one of these animals to be a unique and wondrous being.
Animals have truly brought fullness to my life. Some of them have also brought de
