Some Things Are Better Off Dead

When you stop and think about it 

some things are better off dead 

like love too often neglected or abused  

tortured memories that bring sorrow

  feel the anger then let it go, let it die 

hate can only touch you if you let it 

let your honor die in the sight of men 

they have killed it and set you free

to be what you are, do what you want  

hold honor fast in your heart, hidden

bury the regrets that don't deserve to live 

chew them all up and spit them out 

don't let nagging guilt drag you down 

take a hard look then cut it to pieces 

sweep it into a black hole of oblivion 

watch it disappear at long last

  abandonment, the cruelest abuse 

should remain in the painful past 

learn the hard lesson that not all 

love as you do, stop expecting it

rejoice in freedom. Enjoy tranquility 

don't visit the graveyard ever again 

leave those putrid dead things to decay 

walk in the sunlight, hold your head up

  don't grieve misunderstanding, rejection 

only you and God know your truth 

should of, could of, why, what if 

are four burdens to forget about 

they won't change anything 

do your best where you are now

be at peace, sleep well at night 

realize your past is not you 

only a part of your experience 

only a teacher of wisdom 

a sculptor of the best of you

leave the past in the past  

treasure those who don't desert you 

cultivate the garden of friendship

love lives and breathes all around you

surrender your spirit to its rejuvenation
