Passing The Baby
A Christmas family dinner at a restaurant,
rainy skies, cold wind outdoors
warmth of love inside at the table
around me, kind faces I'm learning to love
each soul still a bit of a mystery to me
one brand new soul among us
his darling little face relaxed in sleep
tiny hands, reposed on his chest
dressed like a diminutive, dapper man
each heart went out to him, little Karsten
only four weeks in the harsh light
dear precious soul, newly given by God
love and delight surrounding him
and before long we were playing
that age-old game families always play
“passing the baby” from arms to arms
we held him and gently caressed his head
graced with wispy hair and that 'baby scent”
when you hold a baby, you feel close to God
and so, we passed him around the table
our pure love for him warmed us
and knit our hearts together
passing the baby passing time
better than passing around vintage wine
cinnamon roll, on a blistering cold Water day! A great write LaBelle, thank you!
I can't remember when I held a baby, but I can imagine what it must be like.
