Those that had nothing in the first place
Have lost everything they owned.
You can see it written on each face,
Indelibly etched and honed
Into a sharpness that transcends pain.

Those that had nothing but hopes and dreams
Have lost everything they had.
You can hear it with each parent's screams
When they find their children clad
In death's embrace, their tears fall like rain.

Those that had nothing own nothing more
Except for what's on their back.
They've lived with devastation before,
They've lived with nature's attacks
Yet, the numbers continue to rise.

Those that had nothing have nothing left
Until we show them we care.
Our brothers and sisters are bereft
Of everything but our prayers...
Can you help ease the pain in those eyes?
