Perhaps. It's also a way of life - ...
Some people pick up knitting needles, some a crochet hook; some dip brushes into paints and create a picture on canvas. I pick up words and string them together, unfolding verse as a vision before your eyes. Is it a hobby, this poetry I write? Perhaps. It's also a way of life - don't have to go to the Lobby for supplies. That's the best part: have plenty of material to go around, to use as needed. Is it good? It doesn't matter. With practice, I get better. And I like the way it looks on the bookshelf. It was made by me!
Whether we do it as professional writers looking to get published or as just people who love the written word it does not matter as long as we enjoy it.
Writing is a way of life someone I can not remember who once said writing is opening a vein and letting it bleed on the page, I believe it is more than that though

Sopme people speak in tongues as well and get their point across. With us poets it's a compulsion that our Muse directs at the weirdest times. I love being a puppet for my Muse....don't you?

Nice wonderings here, Karla. For me, writing is essential...like breathing air, drinking, and eating. So, I think you're on to something when you say that it's a way of life. I dream about it too, and I feel strangely disoriented if a day passes without writing something. I have to force myself to take breaks! Hugs:) Sheila
Good way to look at it Karla! Poetry for the poet is a vein of rich blood that flows through the body to keep it alive with the imagery it takes to keep writing. But it is much more than any one person,for only a collective audience of all kinds of people, give the encouragement for poets/writers to continue. Excellent poem!

Amazing what you can do with 26 letters.
Ever tried writing a poem only using one vowel, like the letter O.
I guess off the cuff it could be, cOme Now brOwn Owl fOOd tO hOwl tOO,
wOO wOO, naff ain't I... just a thought to expand the noggin...
i think it is a hobby as well as so many other things-i came to this sight for several reasons and have stayed because of the very real connections here, made with modern day pen and ink

It can be, but for many people, it is a way of making a living--or try to, anyway! LOL They write because they HAVE to, WANT to, NEED to--and LOVE to--as you do. Excellent poem; brava!
