Yes, who paid for this? And how on earth is this unstable lady going to adequately mother them, much less pay their way? If she was out on a farm somewhere (with a husband!) and it was 100 years ago when disease was a threat to every child's survival ...

this will provoke a lot of discussion Karla -- and in this case, that is exactly what did not happen up front -- the children and those that will ultimately pay to raise them are the ones that will suffer the consequences of a decision not wisely made -- much peace and love-- JMW

I only know that bureaucratic control is not the answer to everything! I know that first hand with adoption... The Hague Convention is a prime example. Instead of helping children get into their loving homes, families are waiting years to bring their children home from overseas...and many are being denied for stupid reasons...

Karla, I have to agree. With six children all ready, (and I wonder if she was pregnated by her husband with those six) why would she need in vitro fertilization?

In the days before industrialization when familes farmed the land, they birthed many children to help tend the crops to make a living. Now, people have children to make a living--but they don't work for it.

I hear you. Well written as always. Ethics be damned.... where are the ethics here? Where is the emotional support coming from for this woman when she's so dog tired she can't function or even begin to spread her love so thinly over all these babes?

I cannot imagine anyone being "unfriendly" towards you because of YOUR opinion that matters, because it is just that, yours...I mean I was basically an only child as my brother was killed early in his life, and I sorely wish my mother was more prolific, but some are not meant to be mothers to more than two...or less...Ed

I heard about this story, sadl;y it reminded me a bit of the Church I grew up in, you were not favored by God unless you had as many children as posible, my Mom felt condemned often because she could only have two, they didnt seem to take in the fact that she took in any children who needed love. You many not make friends with this, but the subjects I write about aren't always popular.

Wow! Some people will get mad, but for many you've only written what many have been thinking! I am fed up with the system that supports too many people that are able to work! I also worry about the fact that many physicians are trying to play the role of God. I think it's great when doctors are able to help those that are unable to have children, but for someone who already has six, and for someone who doesn't even have their own home, spouse, or a job!!! I see little children each day who come to school hungry because there are too many children in the home, not enough income, and out of funds from the government for the month! I think this was a poor sense of judgement on both the mother and doctor's behalf...glad you got it off your chest my friend, a powerful offering indeed! Well written! You know the sad thing is that when someone is in real need of assistance, the funds are not there or the person isn't eligible. Like the elderly man that froze to death inside his home in Mich. because the power company turned his electric off...I still get angry when I think of this, why couldn't the state or government helped him pay his bill???? Anyway this could go on forever...well done!

I don't know and can't understand why this woman would want so many children. In the long run, are the children going to have sufficient care?

I have just read recently, two mothers have murdered their daughters. One by way of strangulation; and another little girl by way of torture and beaten to death.

People who do not want to have children SHOULD REALLY REALLY think before they have them. It's not like playing dolls, because children are "alive" and dolls are not. Once you have children you are committed to care for them and give them love!!!

I was heartbroken when I learned how the children were tortured and murdered by the parents. It just breaks my heart. These people who were not ready to have children SHOULD NOT have made any babies in the first place.

I don't know how this couple is going to take care of eight babies. I hope they don't abuse them when they think they have had enough. Babies are born to love, not to be tortured.

I agree with you - there are so many other childless couples who have so much love to spare. If the parents don't need their children anymore, they SHOULD consider giving them up for adoption. At least they will be properly cared for and received the loved that they deserve.

Certainly brings a lot of moral and ethical questions into play, like who should decide if women can or cannot be vitro ferilized. I agree that it may not be right for a woman who already has eight children to want another but how do we decide...should only women who can't have any children be given this option, then should they be limited to one, two or three children. Sadly in a democratic society all have to be treated equal sometimes to the dertrement of society of a whole.

I quite agree.
At first I heard this as a radio news item and thought the mother had just eaten 8 jelly babies candy! Come to think of it some 28 years ago I ate a bag of jelly babies and now we have two daughters. The Stork? No I don't believe that one!
