I met an old
lady who asked
me to see
a movie with her.
In good sense,
I did, and
learned more
in one afternoon
than four years
of college.
Such as why
we miss each
other.
And how to
find solace in
new company
without the need
to hammer it
with an old
tool.
How each day
is new but
still the same.
That history is
not a scoreboard.
And that to shovel
chum into the water
raises sharks.
What was the
movie? Who knows,
there will always
be another.
But only one hand
will ever by like
hers. Spotted, thin
and warm. I
know because I
held it when I
thanked her.
She kissed
my cheek with
cracked lips,
left a red
mark that I
refuse to wash.
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
