OUR NEW AD IN A TOURIST MAGAZINE
placed in hotels and tourist attractions
As most of you know, the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages is all volunteer and depends on donations to do our work. All contributions go to the campaign - whether it be for posters, fliers, buttons, this newsletter, our two web sites or our post card campaign. Every penny! We began this campaign in January 2006 after Spotty was killed on the street - and we are still here fighting the good fight. We made this an issue that people are once again talking about. It is on the radar screen. No doubt about that. We also organized with other groups and started Horses Without Carriages International - a global initiative to ban horse-drawn carriages.
Our new campaign consists of ads placed in a tourist magazine that is distributed in NYC hotels and tourist attractions around the city. This ad was very expensive (for us) but we believe well worth it. The present City Council currently consists of many "lame ducks" and Quinn clones so we have given up on them for now and are targeting tourists. Tourists mostly take these rides. Besides, we hope the government will be more responsive next January. The statistics on the ad are based on actual accidents in NYC. Thanks to graphic designer Jane Denny for her work and Susan Brandt for contributing her photo. And thanks to all of you who worked on this ad suffering through the many edits and variations ad infinitum and even one rejection from the publisher. However, we are also grateful to the publisher for agreeing to accept this ad. We are very pleased with the results.
This ad will run for five months going through November. We would love to continue it for another five months at least. But we need your help. Please consider making as generous a donation as possible. Click Here.

Mayor Riley cannot quite control all the craziness in Charleston now. More on this next week. In the meantime, if you have a desire to travel south - leave inhumane Charleston off your itinerary. Look at that overloaded carriage the horse is forced to pull -- and they work up to 98 degrees!

Let's hear it for the beasts of burden, the donkeys, mules, horses, elephants, camels and buffalo, the unsung soldiers that are treated as our slaves and very often abused and neglected when of no more use.
You are a man of true heart and I admire you.

I've seen in Lancaster county PA, that the Amish have the same kind of thing and always thought about the heat & how hot those animals must be...though they feed them with oats and plenty of water, even spraying them with water every now and again...e
