or turn a deaf ear to my voice?
and what is it you wish to hear
an echo of your own sentiments
or something distinctive, original
warm poetic words uniquely mine?
for they are warm, always warm
when i think of you, sweet woman
they are words below the surface
inferred between all my lazy lines
of such provincial, polite romance
burn the flames of lustful phrases
to singe your heart, pry your mind
open to the unspoken possibilities
of the things we do not say aloud
except into the ears of a sea wind
when stars laugh at our loneliness
and a drunken moon torments us
with beams we know are caressing
the closed eyelids of distant lover
words spoken silently, privately
when we send them across waves
to shores we walk only in dreams
