compressed humanity with cobblestone airs on hills in sooty hats jangle the change in the pockets of tradition still air to breathe exhaling individuality onto bluest skies with clouds in proper places and gossamer gowns yes, shops still close at nine peeking faces dampening dreams with nits to pick and tsks to give to restless souls with shoes of old some to sleep tucked in tight passing by their lives for the sports cars and designer labels while miracles happen in barren blocks of simple dreams for those too scared to dream of humility missing the magic of staying small amidst the day's dawning light where angels are born in empty hands

A colourful write of contrasts here, Michelle. Your first stanza is totallly knockout... so reminiscent of some of the "chocolate box" villages I know. You capture the manifold characters through the ages so well. If I find the first part of the poem to speak of bygone eras, then the second part certainly brings me bang up to date with images of sports cars and designer labels! And it IS a bitter irony that we always hanker after the other man/woman's grass... I think such country coastal idylls here were amongst the first to go with all things "mod" when the glories of the 50s and 60s struck, desecrating what to us would be their olde worlde charm. Good social comment poem as well as being so Dylan Thomas in it's artistic eye and character capture. You have juxtaposed your ideas well in this poem and introduce that idea of modern "airiness" in the form you have chosen... as opposed to the denseness of huddled-together cottages and thatched roofs! "barren blocks", "cobblestone airs" are felt in your poem from beginning to end. Short, condensed, visually coherent, this is very fine poetry indeed.
