This is based on one of my favorite paintings ever, "The Desperate Man" by Gustave Courbet. I recently saw an exhibition on him at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and it was AMAZING to see in person. I think I am in love with the man in the painting, lol(Courbet, actually). It happens, I am weird and fall in love with book characters, too. The line about us all being desperate men came from Father Joseph Mary on EWTN when he was speaking of men in prison being desperate men.
I think you got it right here. Nice poem. Among the good ones I have come across this year. You flow the words freely with accuracy, we are all desparate human beings, always scared of the next day.

I really think you've captured the essence of innocence here. We all start out with dreams and goals, and then the road bends. Obstacles create frustration and longer paths to our goals. Nicely penned, Michelle!
