Poem Artwork

Employment I have sought

Over a year now since I was “downsized”

An impressive resume, I have

Seventeen diplomas and certifications

And still no nibbles at my hook

I’m just sitting here with feet dangling in the brook

Drowning dozens of worms upon a hook

Fishing for a job

Not a job to make me rich just enough to pay my bills

So I do not have to collect unemployment.

I paid in the money, I don’t know why

I have such a phobia of collecting it now.

A stigma is what I feel of someone down and out

With people kicking me because I’m down here now

Instead of up there where I was.

So change of venue is the plan

No longer an Executive/Administrative Assistant

Gone back to school to soon complete a

Degree of Associates in Information Technology

Perhaps then I will regain

My sense of self-respect

And those that kick and call me names

Can find someone else to bear the mud

Perhaps then, a piece of sheepskin will

Make my life

Easier and happier than Unemployment.

Ann, great discription of what it's like to be on the 'other side' of the life-line. The one thing I've learned about surviving in this life comes down to one word. Adaptability.

I wish you well...you will survive.
Peace,
Dan

I love the fishing analogy. As a fisherman, I can say as far as that goes: "fish are the great equalizers of persons." As for "job fishing" I couldn't say, the "sheepskin" sure should help. Good luck getting it and good luck "fishing"
