Pain

I feel the pain of long ago
from the men on the sea
The death that comes slow

Fire came with a blast of the earth
with no time to run
None were saved from death to birth

From the ships to the towns
great battles were fought
The cry was loud
The value was not

Some came in the night
with cold steel at their side
To capture the man, the babe,
and the bride

Power over man never before known
punish each one
In his work
and his home

So silent it comes day or night
Ever so slowly without a sign
It's day after day
Night after night
