Grace is for those in the right, those who repent wrong, who speak in penitent tone if and when spoken to, walk straight lines, veer not from proscribed path of public shame.
Note to Vicky & others - this one is written from the pov / voice of the one doing the condemning of the "sinner" even as the "sinner" is refusing to live by "proscribed path..." (i.e. wear the scarlet "A" etc.). yep i do see a difference and when I find myself in the position of the "sinner" (which, of course, I have) I try to focus on responsibility. Sometimes that means owning a mistake, misjudgment. Other times, it means being willing to stand my ground in grace that would be denied me by my accusers but which God provides enough for the day. However, those who would persist in pouring out shame - accepted or not - do damage that spreads far beyond the "sinner" in question... that contamination brought on by a need to control others and stand in judgment can, I believe, prevent others who witness such acts from learning of the grace they so need in their lives. Long story behind this. Writing a book. Check back here in about a year or two. :) Glad to hear others' thoughts.
