Poem Artwork

Raise the white flag of freedom; this battle is
no longer mine. It was never mine. I was blind, but now
I see. I lay down my relentless need to mold this world to fit
my expectations and stand before you, palms up, face
to the falling rain. I surrender the illusion of control.
I will take the days as they come. I will accept
necessary hardship, even as I walk on.
By your grace, I will not faint.
I will wait on you.

Hard as the lack of love has been, my faith will
find its resting place, contented and dreaming in the pod
of your imagined love, which is gentle and soft as a bed
of leaves on the cool forest floor. My heart will beat
through and through to the rhythm of what has
always been, full with the memory
of what is yet to be.
I will wait on you.

And there will be another morning and another
and a morning even after that when the sky will split.
And a new age will be revealed. We shall see the genesis
of heaven on earth. Love’s everlasting reign shall come to pass
on this our lonely planet, which will spin no more
on its own wasted energies but will be set to sail
by the very breath of God and float, buoyed up
on an infinite sea of golden grace.
