Poem Artwork

One day I woke up and heard myself talking,
murmuring in a language I could not understand.
Beneath the babbling brook I had become I sensed
something more, and so I went looking

I found there a smattering of thoughts, firing
in random directions from the arsenal that was my mind.
In the bunker beneath its heavy battery I wondered
if there were something more, and so I went looking.

I found there an ache, ocean of longing, brimming
with life but coated in slick oil. Haunted eyes stared
back at me from within the vast sea that sprung
from my heart, sullied now with drops of pain
that birthed swirling exquisite colors.

Yet beneath that ocean scene I sensed there might be
something more. And so I went looking. There, in  I found
a cavern, sacred womb hallowed and hollowed yet filled
with a song whose strange and beautiful music echoed

Off aged walls. Looking down, I found a stream so pure
I wanted only to cup my hands and drink from it. Something
or some One led me alongside these waters within me,
I began to notice a certain clarity. How its sparkled.

Alive, drops seemed to rise up and dance in the light
that illuminated me! I wondered from what spring
this stream had sprung. So I traced it back to gentle cascades,
tumbling cool waters, gift of grace, light-infused.

As I climbed the rocks smoothed by time, I found myself
standing in awe in the blessed stillpoint I had become
and felt such bliss, return to rest. Alive, at one with all that is,
I became a spacious silence and an ever-expanding universe,

the eternal birth,
I am.
