I just woke up and wondered
what's the noise I heard?

Am I getting plundered?
That just seemed absured.

The moon has not yet set,
outside it is still dark,

but I get out of bed,
to see why my dog just barked.

I see a trail of evidence
all across the hall

someone real belligerence
must have had a ball.

Then I hear another noise
as things get ripped apart,

I don't think I have a choice
my pulse beats fast and hard.

Of my life I'm real protective
I'm warning: "Stop! And do not run!"

"I have called for the detective
and I have a real big gun!!"

Silence - not a sound I hear,
bravely I walk on

No thief in sight - all is clear
What the heck is going on?

White fabric's strewn all around
what seems to have been once a quilt

ain't no one there besides my hound
who looks at me with lots of guilt.
