Homeless man I watched as you lined a deserted doorway, your Maytag boxes cardboard monuments in Fed Ex labels and signs pointing 'This Side Up', stark reminders of what is, and what could be, but for the grace of God. I wondered if I wished hard enough, a Fed Ex truck might spirit you away on a magic carpet ride to where you wouldn't be invisible for those who take the time to look and really see, to where someone would offer you a job with no Catch 22, first telling you to shower and have clean clothes, and you with no money for either without a job. I wished. I prayed. But for the grace of God go I.

Before my daughter went to Bible College, she had a street ministry with her two boys, (which I had the honor of naming) "Steps of Faith". I went with them one day, into the back alleys, dumpsters, under bridges...and I was in constant tears to see how the people ran up to them - eager to see them!
The boys were several years younger then, and both special needs, but they took tracts and told them about Jesus....leaving them their smiles and their Hope! My daughter and the boys held them, prayed with them, sometimes gave them money, food, clothes - or took them to fill an actual physical need, to afford even a small comfort.
We try to live by what Christ spoke: "What you do to the least of these, you do to Me."

A very touching write my friend...sad situation but a realistic one, especially sad during the holidays, hard to imagine that they don't have any family or what is even more sad is that they have family and their still homeless...thought provoking.

The first verse is ripe with detail, drawing a real life picture. The rest shows the hopelessness of hope, because of a yes-but attitude most would take with the man. It is amazing how you can write with such picture perfect insight.
