Sisterly Chatter

By Kathy Armijo

When I think of sisterly chatter,
I immediately think of my five sisters.
Throughout my life, they’ve been by my side.
Through thick and thin,
Even when I didn’t want them in.

Then, there are these wonderful friends,
On whose sisterly love I can depend.
These are the women who find it in their heart
To guide me through the throes of life,
And, rejoice with me, as my life takes flight.
It’s a sisterly chatter in which I delight.

We’ve managed to share our highs and lows,
Always grateful for unconditional love.
It’s a wonderful, magical love that keeps us bound to one another.

So, here we sit talking sisterly chatter.
Sometimes, the silliness envelopes us like when we were children.
Hear us giggle!  You’d think we were prepubescent.
Sometimes, it feels like we’re strangers.
“How’s the weather” or “How’s it going?”
             N
othing that really matters.

This causes me great sadness.
Other times, it feels like we’re philosophers or theologians.
What do you think of …?
            I wonder about …
But, mostly, it is sisterly chatter.

You don’t know what sisterly chatter is!
It’s a share from the heart.
            It’s about –
                        Our loves.
                        Our fears and sadness.
                        Our aspirations.
                        Our LIFE!
It’s a constant interruption of conversation,
Or you’d never get a word in edge-wise.
It’s about reminiscing and dreaming.
Sisterly chatter makes my heart sing.

What a blessing. I only have one sister and she is so much younger than me. I have 5 brothers and perhaps another poem would be needed for that.

Fantastic. I share like this with my little sister. We have a blast and then sometimes it's like you say strangers. But that's true in all relationships. great write. Liz
