A Child’s Prayer

© By Kathy Armijo

My Dad is very sick

I went and saw him at the hospital

Wish he’d smile so I could see his dimple

He looks weird with lots of tubes everywhere

Mom says they will help him get better

I hope so

He looks really tired

He didn’t talk very much to me.  Why?

It makes me sad to see him this way

Mom tells me to pray for him every day

Don’t know why, cause I know he will be okay

I hope he will come home today

I hear my Mommy weep

When she thinks I am asleep

We don’t have as much fun as we used to

Everything is different.  How come?

God, I am only a kid

Hurry up and make my Dad better

So, he can come home to

Play with me and make my Mom smile, again

Thank you, God.  Amen.

Oh, I almost forgot

Help Mommy find a new job.

I can hear these words from a child Kathy and it breaks my heart as they say from the mouths of babes. Thank you for sharing their innocents.

That kind of prayer, the one coming from a child must be delivered to Him by express mail in heavens...as it should be.

Children, wise beyond their years in the things that really count. Your poem certainly says the things achild would say. Very well done Kathy. Jon Michael Willey

Well done Kathy, sounds just like what a child would say and some think children don't understand grown up things....

Be always safe,

The innocense of a child trying to understand the realities of life and death is one of the hardest things an adult can see and find an answer for.

From the eyes and through the voice of a child! You've captured a great deal of feeling here. Nicely done.

'Tho they are spoken softly, I think God hears children's prayers as if they were shouted from a mountaintop. Well done, dear Karhy...well done!

Children are so precious and when sadness falls upon their shoulders, it is a tragedy. This is a beautiful prayer for children who are suffering such an issue and for adults who may be, too. My father has several chronic health disorders and there are days, at age 27, when I have prayed for the very same thing and had the very same thoughts.

Take care,
Jill
