Grandma
© By Kathy Armijo
Her home was o l d
Older than she
Love filled, and never, ever cold
She would play checkers
Until she lost to us kids
Then, calling us stinkers
She’d head to the kitchen
To get us a treat
Effectively thwarting any tension
Tales about growing up in New Mexico before it was a state
Kept us wanting to know more
She spoke Spanish, but her English was good, no need for someone to translate
The bread that she baked
Looked like birds and hands
Waiting for this delight, how our heart and tummy ached
To eat each finger of the “hand” or bite off the head of the “bird” bread
A bit like a cannibal
Well … enough said
She taught us the art of sewing
She could make a pattern from any garment
Her talent was intriguing
Grandma always had time to listen
She taught us about God and love
The consummate Christian
Her legacy of love lives on in her family
We try to emulate her goodness, love and compassion
To make her proud, until we are reunited with her for all eternity
very well done Kathy...

To have such fond memories of someone who nurtured you as a growing girl, is beyond imagination..I too have my "Nana" and her spirit along with all grandmas spirits live on in our hearts. We are all so fortunate to have such beautiful memories..Wonderful poem, thank you, it brought back my tender memories as well.
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
