Poem Artwork

the morning’s spider web tickled my shoulder
with the instant startle of its stickiness
I walked under the canopy of shade
my arms immediately fanned
in an effort to avoid confrontation
of spindling legs in my hair
or destruction of its precious lair

cautiously I ducked, grace and delicacy
emulated knowing the encounter
need not be a dramatic throated squeal
nor a nasty poisonous bite
bending down I moved the garden hose
to the grateful hydrangea
and watched its nurturing suckle

the feeling lingered and I kept
brushing my shoulder as if wisps
remained to the pleasure/pain
of the intricate web’s weaving
tickling the back of my neck
as a gentle awareness
and fearful reminder

of inter connectedness

Very creative and clever symbolism. I'm sure we all can relate to spider webs but never like this before. Thanks for sharing, Gloria

The sentiment of this piece was well recieved.

Having had ample encounters myself with spider webs and their impressive inhabitants, which always, whether poisonous or not, evoke some degree of respect and abhorrence, I cringed as I read these well constructed ideas and welled up inside with more than enough empathy for both of us.

Good job Poet!
Richard

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
