hormones and houseguests don't always mix well, recently a guest's visit left me with some self reflection

Poem Artwork

you’re the nicest person I’ve ever met
she said..i instantly judged her minimal perception
for the greater whole was so much more
and someone she didn’t know

she came rocking through
from out of town
high ideals and travel plans
she never stopped to look around

her 20’s youth and sparkle shined
energy high in who she was
gave all she had in souls release
but never once was my heart at ease

in that place of depth that feels of kind
her stories were of a different mind
inside I felt I knew her too
because there she was
swiftly delivered in gentle nudge
and kind reminder
the universe is never random
as it constantly distributes
the visual of our shadow self
the gift of who we seem to be
and yet beneath was more to see

onward again to something new
leaving behind all she never knew
she left as quickly as she arrived
like the winds of march
expected, abrupt, and flying

and i learned
sometimes when we excel in the giving
we often lack the ability of the receiving
my my....we were so alike

You express a lot in this poem, Debby. It does make the reader take a paus for reflection. It makes me wonder why so many say that I never "grew up." Hmmm... Thank you for this. Love and peace to you,

Regis

youth has a way of forcing us to self-reflect, seeing ourselves in its shadows and its onward motion ...

Often we do tend to see our pasts in the presence of youth, their futures still dreaming, ours past due. This says it all.
