No muse as yet. Where is it?

Poem Artwork

Thoughts linger at the door -

Pounding!
But the door would not open.
Like a child
who is expecting Santa
to come through the door;
or perhaps he would come in
through the chimney?

I look up at the ceiling -

Nothing!
The ceiling is totally bare.
Like a blankness
that is staring back at me
to intrude the innocence;
or perhaps the complexity
of my mind?

Nothing to write!

I can feel "nothing" when I sit and try to write poetry. This year, the muse has deserted me. She's hidden her head. I'm waiting for happier times.

I'm at that point now = nothing to think of even to write about.

Being able to write about the blankness of not being able to write is a good sign. No pictures on the ceiling, nothing outside the shut door, but being aware of that, you know you will be inspired to write again. A good poem, I think, spare and bare, to suit its subject.

I appreciate the "Like a blankness," because blankness can also be seen and felt as 'space,' space in which to 'rest.' ~~ Diana

Well you did find something to write Sandie. I've always said if you get writer's block write about writer's block and it will disappear!

Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful comments to this poem!! I'm around, but have to be in the kitchen making the Sunday dinner. It's beef stew, so it needs a lot of cutting and chopping of the veggies. I will be back later on this evening. Thanks again!!! ((((( Love and hugs to you all )))))

I'VE MADE THIS STATEMENT SO MANY TIMES BEFORE, USUALLY IN RESPONSE TO THE SAME KIND OF POEM....'EVEN WHEN A POET THINKS THEY'RE SAYING NOTHING, THEY ARE SAYING SOMETHING'. AS FAR AS THE 'SILENCE' IS CONCERNED. WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE...WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT. THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR FEELINGS, ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Knowing you, I can't believe you would ever come upon such a situation. Before I write a poem, I sometimes sit down with no idea at all in my mind, and am still able to come up with a poem in short order.

There are many tricks out there that you can you like going to working on another project because I know you have many going on at the same time like I do. Or, go off and do something altogether different and suddenly, an idea will pop your head that you can pursue.
