To Be Washed Away

Is it not like a braided thorn
Upon a waste of time
Fleeting within the moment
Surrendering a vulnerability
The ones that never really matter
Those split second decisions that fade fade fade
Or charge us to the locked gate of change
Barbs and thistle thorns blooming
Stalled by the instability of procrastination
That in itself, too, lingers as a free weight
A notorious pendulum of precise knowing
Dangling among the ideas of choice
Washing ashore like a lost daydream
Sun blocked canopy falling down down down
Because the rain was like horned stones
Adhering to the thrashing yesteryears
Yes those moments reliving are a waste of time
Unless you need to reconcile your differences
And wade like footprints in the wet sad
Sticking to the sole of your soul’s soul
To be washed away with the next high tide
Cleansing more than the soul can keep or reap
Sleep slumber angel…sleep…sleep in beautiful dreams
Know that you are very loved…

Forgiving ourselves our past sins and trespasses may assuage our conscience, but may not relieve us of guilt. I've spent a good deal of time doing that. Not as easy to do as to say. When we do arrive at the place where we find forgiveness and forgetfulness we know that place and then can sleep the sleep of the clean soul. You may have done that before from reading this. Peace achieved is indeed refreshing Victoria. Bob

John Burnside put it this way: "at the most basic level, poetry is important because it makes us think, it opens us up to wonder and the sometimes astonishing possibilities of language. It is, in its subtle yet powerful way, a discipline for re-engaging with a world we take too much for granted." Your poem did all that and more, and it matters not one whit whether any reader cannot grasp it. Your poem is already making me see the world in new ways. Your use of language is astonishingly delicate and probing. A superior posting.

Forgiveness is a Powertool for each of us!
It's a beautiful thing to let go of the heavy weights
& those pendulums that may keep swining in us
the closing of the poem is what ties it together about
being wasted time or not (unless/reconciliation is needed)
I wasted in reflection(s) before embracing my own forgiveness(s):

"Unless you need to reconcile your differences
And wade like footprints in the wet sad
Sticking to the sole of your soul’s soul
To be washed away with the next high tide
Cleansing more than the soul can keep or reap"

things that need to be mended will not evade us
they will crop up no matter all the time passing

Never Let Anyone Hold You Down By Yesterday Jerry
You have mended your fences & can sleep well xx

Ahhh, I find myself disagreeing with you with this one, my friend Vickie. With regards to these two lines is my difference which I will point out, "Adhering to the thrashing yesteryears / Yes those moments reliving are a waste of time."

I spent many years, over two decades following the mean streets and the mean, unacceptable choices I made with my life. I had three children by two wives that I abandoned. I am happy to tell you that both my daughter (by different mothers) search this grand land until they found their father. This was such a grand thing that they did, I had tried, unsuccessfully to find them also. I have a son who was particularly happy that his sister located me, but we have met and are on speaking terms. What all the history is about is to let you (and whoever else is reading this) know why I chose to go public here on AD about my sins of the past. I wrote poems rehashing what I had done, many of them very intimate and revealing. Vickie, I was cleansing my soul and finally, finally in October 2010 I was able to forgive myself of my past deeds because I realized I was not the same man who commented those deeds, therefore I was able to forgive that man. It was like I was breathing for the very first time and the air were cleaner and I fell cleansed. I still have that feeling. I conquered my demons through the public shedding of their sins. Enough. I'll hush now.
