to a love not lost but growing

remember,

your happiness
cannot depend on me
as mine
cannot depend on you
you have made your choices
now i have made mine
and though it is not
a choice of destruction
of you, or me, or us
you can no longer blackmail me
into actions or decisions
that would not prove my love for you
anyway
you cannot tell me how to live
just as i cannot
will not
tell you
you must deal with your fears
i with mine
i won’t ease your guilt anymore
or carry your burden
although there was a time when i did
now i must try to be rid of my own burdens
my own guilt
what you asked of me
was unfair
all i ask of you
is love and understanding
face the truth
and with it our fear of it
that is life
it is humanity
i love you
but i need to be me
not an extension of you
but a realisation
of an inner dream
be free

Freeedom to be oneself is utmost...and the prelude to love others when you can love yourself enough first to be one. Excellent work.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
