...a bit of humor with reality

Poem Artwork

“You’ve got high blood-pressure,

no salt, is that clear?”

Sage words from my Doc

that I sure hated to hear.

Always thought it to be

salt-of-the-earth…so dear!

Why…I’ve even put a little

in my favorite beer!

Whoever gave advice

it would be unhealthy for you?

‘Tis a natural on eggs

and mashed ‘taters, too.

Can’t give up salt,

things won’t taste the same;

heard salt in your step

puts you ahead of the game.

Took me months before

it was a new way of life;

weeks of tastelessness

that caused me strife.

Then, funny how things happen,

I did soon acclimate –

no salt on the table,

or near my plate!

I’m near salt-free,

and it ain’t so sad;

add a tad more pepper

so you don’t feel so bad.

(ahhh…but just a little shake now and then don’t hurt)

I felt the same when I gave up sugar in my coffee - now I can't stand coffee with sugar in it.

It takes a few months to adjust. Now when I go out to a restaurant, I feel like I am at a salt lick, everything is so salty. And, did you notice you can now actually "taste" the food, not the salt? Try a pinch of sea salt to cook with when you need to add salt, much better than the table salt variety. Not bitter.

I love the poem!

A little shake won't hurt at all. I rarely use salt but now and then I grab the shaker and spill some on my roast chicken and it tastes great.

I've been on a salt free diet since thirty years. I find potassium powder tastes like salt, but don't overdo it. Besides you need potassium, you don't need salt. Victor

This was a fun write Micke. If ever I can't have my salt, just pickle me and hang me out to dry.
