Dear God,
Watch over the brave of heart,
Those who act to protect me
Against the enemies of my friends.

Poem Artwork

Keep them safe from harm,
Keep them close to your bosom,
Hold them tightly and protect them
From the fate that awaits them,
In the desert of lost souls.

Dear God,
Help them to know the truth
Underlying the American Dream,
Help them to see that war
Is Hell,
Help us to love them despite
The cirumstances,
Despite the mercenary nature
Of their service.

Dear God,
Protect us all against the
Retribution that will surely come,
That your own laws warn us about,
That we know as surely as we breath
Are the first breezes of the whirlwind
We have reaped.

Call those unto thee
Whose souls remain pure,
The soul-jahs of divinity's war
Against ignorance and blind hatred,
Who fight a spiritual battle daily,
In search of the God within.

Dear God,
Help me to love those who protect me.
Help me to understand their divine mission,
The divine mission of all things
That seem evil on the surface
But that serve your larger purpose,
Which is ever toward the greatest good.

Help me to open my heart to these
Brothers and Sisters
Whose hearts are with mine,
Whose blood will be shed
In my name,
Whose love of country and land
Has awakened within them the need to serve,
To give the Ultimate Sacrifice,
For its preservation.

The preservation of this Land,
Of this peoples,
Despite our many problems.
Despite our deep and abiding differences,
Our ethnic and economic hatreds.

Help us to see past all that in this moment:
This moment of self-recognition and truth,
Past ourselves and our causes,
The economic uncertainties
And the blood-lust of the damned,
The evil that men do in the
Search for material gain and fame.

Dear God,
Help us to recognize
That there are those who have chosen
To die for us if need be.

For me,
And for us all.

For this country,
Our country,

The United States of America.

Yes... God bless us all... the righteous and the self-righteous... this nation continues to need all the help it can get. But, at 227 years old, we are still the "kid" of nations. One problem is... we've got this big damn stick...

mark,
one hell of a good write --
the only good to come out of this smozzle
is that the american dream, not the one about
cars and poultry, but about "Liberty and justice for all" survives
the grave danger is that it will not.

I appreciate your nuanced prayer,

amen
