* Moon Shadows
At the top of the world,
he will fish their dinner.
Day to dark night sky
he will work it loose
from the deep, wet expanse.
Guided by the moon then,
he will return to feed her.
She will be there waiting,
marveling over the stars,
puncturing the night sky.
They do not dilute the beauty
of a dark night spent waiting.
The moonshadow returning,
to fill her hungry heart.
*** Far Shores, Steady Stores
Finding himself lucky again,
deep in the far reaches,
he rips loose a gift pure
silver from clear waters.
His blood boiling in effort,
coaxing life to rest on shore,
he places this gem to ice.
The dark sky soon surrounds her,
the moon a squinting crescent.
Stars gaze insistent, unblinking.
Planes, a given and a distraction,
refuse now to disrupt the night.
His delay is with good reason,
but goes far and beyond same.
Atop the world he is reluctant,
to place her jewel to sizzle,
the fire now replacing the ice.
His chest aches at its center.
Gut gaping and long empty,
the moonshadow now eats
his very heart out for her.
Her eyes drop from the sky,
to feet on retreat, slowly inside.
She pulls canned beans loose
from a dark shelved recess.
Urging them from jar to mouth,
forcing down beyond hunger,
she holds his hands to her lips.
*** Walking For Cover
moon glow, nearly full,
brimming, spilling over,
providing a warm wash,
this frigid, cold night,
yet mocking me,
taunting, the world,
a double bed.
I walk alone, missing you,
treading the marshlands,
again this twilight hour,
bent marsh grass underfoot,
felled, side-lying, resting,
under a thick white blanket.
I feel the urge to jump,
bounce this straw mattress,
tall, but small, unbundled,
I long to fall, flat to ground,
imagining it our bed complete,
warmth, with you for cover.
hightide, ebbtide, warm and cold
so distant, so near, so much to take in.
i enjoyed the read, poet anne. much gratitude.
