This poem is about Princess Diana and was written shortly after her death. It is my tribute to her.

Unpolished Princess!

Young and beautiful was this lovely English lass,

Possessing a charm like unpolished brass.

Her life changed into a whirlwind of anticipation,

She soon was accepted into our hearts with adoration.

She was marrying her Prince and had a fairytale life,

She wouldn't be just a Princess but also a Prince's wife.

From the very beginning, she knew within her soul,

That something wasn't right, the marriage took its toll.

Her Prince was rather handsome but often concealed,

With a lover still intact, soon shortly to be revealed.

The devastated princess knew within her heart,

That his lover was between them, almost from the start.

Concentrating on her children with loving care.

They were her salvation, but the Prince was still there.

If only he had loved her, treated her with gentleness.

They could have flown so high on her energy and zest.

With his love given to another, her love being spurned,

Filling her with anguish at the lessons she had learned.

The unpolished Princess could not live without love at home,

So into the world she went, with her sons, on her own.

Relinquishing her Royal title hurt her deep inside.

But she held her head high, as she walked away with pride.

Worldwide in that moment she became someone real and kind,

With everyone thinking the Prince had lost his mind.

Most humans show more compassion to a beloved dog,

And at that moment, the prince became a frog.

As brass is polished, it grows more beautiful and bright.

If the Prince only waited, he might have seen her light.

As the years passed, the Princess achieved extraordinary deeds,

Trying to mend all wrongs, and fill everyone's needs.

The Princess's love for people expanded and spread worldwide,

And she will be remembered for her Humanity and Pride.

When it was least expected, a new love came in her life,

A man who adored her, who would have made her his wife.

She seemed so happy then, receiving unselfish love.

Was her last taste of happiness, a gift from above?

The unpolished Princess was polished and aglow.

All it took was true love, why didn't the Prince know?

As their love flourished, the brighter her light.

But that light burned out, when she was killed one night.

Disbelief swept far and wide, at the loss of such a jewel.

Even the reserved Prince relented, for he was no fool.

Flowers were sent from everyone at an alarming rate.

To our beloved polished Princess lying in state.

Goodbye polished Princess, we will miss you so.

It’s hard to say goodbye and its hard to let go.

We will cherish your sons and protect them from harm.

We will watch for the pitfalls, alerts, and alarms.

You weren't protected from hurt while you were here,

But now the world's watching, so please don't fear!

Yes, our beloved princess has vanished, but then.

She bequeathed on us two sons, which will help our hearts mend.

As they grow into men and become more like their Mom.

They too will shine brighter as the days go along.

So God speed to you boys, long lives, I pray,

The Princess now shines in heaven, she will light your way.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
