A Gift From the Great Chief

There was a beautiful Indian girl that lived with her tribe.
She was orphaned at two but raised by a man with pride.
He loved this brave little girl, he love her more each day.
But as she grew he knew his feelings were changing in some way.

More and more it became harder for him to depart.
The hunting trips he looked forward to, no longer filled his heart.
He was only sixteen years old when he took this child in.
He cared for her completely, it was the way it’s always been.

But now his love for her has changed it now fills his very soul.
When he’s away, he no longer feels complete, he’s no longer whole.
Fourteen years her senior he feels hopeless and in despair.
How can he possibly tell her what he’s feeling, would she even care.

When he sees the many young braves vetting for her attention.
He wants to cut their hearts out, but nothings ever mentioned.
How long can he go on this way when the only thing he can see?
Is her lying beside him as a man and wife should be?

This beautiful Indian girl noticed a change in the only man she held dear.
He kept getting more quiet and more withdrawn when he was near.
Had she done something to displease him, had she hurt him in some way?
She loved this man with all her heart, more and more each day.

How can I possibly reach him to tell him how I feel?
He thinks I’m a child and I couldn’t possibly know what’s real.
To let him know my love for him has changed and grew to be.
Something so wonderful and powerful that it’s even scaring me.

Then one evening after a hunting party returned late at night.
He came back injured and bleeding. it was a terrible sight.
He was burning up with fever and calling out her name.
Telling her how much he loved her & nothing ever was the same.

She sat up all night with him tenderly tending to his every need.
For now she knew he loved her, but her love not yet was freed.
Let him live, her heart prayed silently, as she lay beside this man.
Let him feel her deep & powerful love, as no other man will or can.

He opened up his eyes and looked intently at her tears.
He knew those tears were from a woman in love, relieving all his fears.
She kissed him gently as he pulled her close and united in their love.
It was truly a gift for both of them, a gift from the Great Chief above.
