Love conquers all!

Poem Artwork

Finally Takes its Toll

She always needed to know she was loved or she couldn’t go on.
She needed to hear the words, see the deeds until the day was done.
Her birth mother left her when she was born, placed in a garbage bin.
She was thrown out like a piece of trash, without one solitary kin.

Everyone that knew her grew to love her with all their hearts.
But she never believed them and assumed they’d soon depart.
No matter how they showed her, they simply couldn’t get through.
All her defenses were intact, and her distrust continually grew.

Then one day a special someone came into her lonely world.
That started to breach her defenses and her world totally unfurled.
She trusted and believed in him and everything he did and said.
For the first time, she felt so secure at night when she went to bed.

Basking in her extreme glory for the first time since she was born.
She could finally forgive her mother & heal the heart so badly torn.
Isn’t it wonderful what love can do by healing someone’s tormented soul?
By taking away the anger, self-pity and completely make them whole.

From the first day she felt his love she found she too could share.
The love that was bursting through her soul, now finally lying bare.
Don’t ever think love’s not enough to bridge the gap to your soul.
It will beat and thrash like a battering ram, and finally takes its toll.

A girl so young sholdn't write about love so seriously, but the poem is lovely and you can get one of those Kojak lollipops.
Good girl!

This one hit close to home in some ways...Trying to break through that wall of mistrust is incredibly difficult sometimes. I only hope that someday...somehow...the love will make a difference in some of my children's lives.

My buddy was concerned about you and phone call put her mind to rest. This is another good write and makes me wonder if you are alright too. It is a little sad at first but has a good wonderful ending. Take care, Bonnie, my good friend.

Huh?...Sounds like you are talking about me... :o)

My mom used to say to me that she had picked me from a pile of garbage while I was growing up in Hong Kong. Oh well, I never knew whether or not she was joking, but I grew to love her anyway, and she me. Love does conquer all hates and obstacles in life. I grew to love my Dad too. - Very much!

Karen and I agree: you write so well. Perfectly metered and rhymed, with a powerful message within. Well done, Bonnie!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
