Santa was very disappointed in the letters he received until one little boy of four touched his heart.

No Christmas This Year!

Santa had no desire to get out of his soft comfy bed.
He had no interest in Christmas or the letters that he read.
They all seemed so selfish and colder than any time before.
He was hoping that generosity would take over and really soar.

But as he read his daily mail, not one was genuinely giving.
It was I want, I desire, I need, I require, nothing about living.
Until he opened one he had never seen before.
He couldn’t believe what he read, from a little boy of four.

Dear Santa,
I am just little and I’ve been a good boy this year,
I have a very brave daddy who hasn’t been here.
He’s in the war Santa and he’s been gone awhile.
I miss my Daddy Santa and the way he made me smile.

I made a card for him and put it in this letter.
I didn’t want it to get lost, so I thought this was better.
All I want for Christmas Santa is for you to deliver this.
So my Daddy won’t feel alone and he’ll know he is missed.

Santa held the tearstained letter tightly in his fist.
I’ve got to read this letter; I’ve got to know the gist.
So Santa opened up the letter and put his glasses on.
And read the letter to a lucky father from his loving son.

Dear Daddy,
I love you daddy more and more each day.
And I remember you every night when I kneel to pray.
I wanted you to know Daddy, I’m being very good.
I don’t do things I’m not supposed to even if I could.

Mommy cries a lot Daddy, I think she misses you.
She tries not letting me see her tears, but I’ve seen quite a few.
If I was really big Daddy, I’d come and bring you home.
Or I’d stay and fight for you so Mommy wouldn’t be alone.

We’re going on a new adventure and we’ll be living in our car.
So we’ll be closer to schools and church, we won’t have to go so far.
We’re even going to take our daily showers at the new YMCA.
Doesn’t that sound fun Daddy, it’s where you & I would play?

That’s all I have to say now Daddy, except I love you so.
You are my Hero & I’m your buddy, but I wish you didn’t go.

Love,
Your son

Santa filled his sleigh & decided there would be Christmas after all.
And we can thank that little boy, who made Santa feel so small.

Sweetie, I really want for you to go to http://thewritingforum.net, and look for the front page box on submitting poems. It gives precise directions. You will have to submit three poems, and then submit this one with the subject line "Christmas Poems." You will also submit a bio. The Webmaster is Marcia Miller-Twiford and you will love her to pieces. Most important -- this poem needs to be on the TWF Christmas section!!! This one is excellent. It is a tear-jerker, and the soldiers need to know that we care. You rock, Sweetie :-)

to those that are willing to sacrifice their all, we, as a nation give almost nothing back in appreciation -- it is Congresses' way of compensating for contributions to our nation -- give the crooks, civilians and politicians alike, monetary bailouts, and those that risk their lives for us, nothing -- does it not make you proud of the U.S. Congress? -- special interest people with no concern for the American people or the soldiers that defend her -- peace and love to you Bonnie -- JMW

I can so relate to this. As Santa this year I have noticed so much greed and it often tears at my guts not to say what I feel but that is not Santa's place to Judge. but..just when I feel I am nearing my limit of requests for IPods, Cell PHones, lap tops, PSP's etc I get a little child who will ask for a dolly, a toy truck, a surprize and yes for the safe return of their Daddy's who are far away and I regain my perspective again.

Oh my Fee, you re-ignite a tiny piece from within my heart of days long ago when me and my children pretty much did just this. As a parent you make it a game so the little ones don't feel ashamed, but your heart just breaks for each tick of the clock...

Be always safe,
Karen

Doonna phoned me and said you were able to see an write a poem here, so I pulled it up and I think it is wondeful of you to write like this and pass around the Christmas Cheer and to let others know that everyone isn't as fortunate as some people are. Good thinking now Bonnie, Merry Christmas and take care of yourself and Jim. God Bless too.

Bonnie,

Such a touching and beautiful write. You can believe there will be plenty of water works at the end of this, I know my eyes are wet. It is so sad what that little boy has to endure, and wants so little. Beautiful Christmas poem, with such an important message.

No Christmas? Scrooge? Grinch? Doc Bonnie? I think that it will be a lot of work for the brothers Ed, keeping Christmas put, helping Santa and personally delivering that letter to that Daddy soldier.

So sad, and very horrifically right now, many military and veteran families are losing their homes to foreclosure at even higher rates than the general populace.

And I truly hope our new President and his new Secretary of Veterans Affairs soon quickly address this issue, and help children like the one in your poem. Our valiant military families truly deserve far more than we as a nation seem willing to give them.
