Poem Artwork

There comes a time in every man’s life when he must heed that call
to take up arms and fight the fight - there’s only victory and the fall.
Caged behind ropes on every side before the screaming crowd...
Each man will face his own demons in hopes of casting it to the ground.

Some will stand and cheer the victor as he holds his hands up high
Some will boo and hiss and turn their backs to ask God simply...why?
Some are the heroes, some are the villains - they chose light or dark
but we as the spectators must remember...each side does has a heart.

So go on fans - cheer on I say for we are watching man at primal best
for who else is willing to stand up and say that he can match such quest?
When the best has shined on through when the bell’s ring comes and go
Who will be left alone in the spotlight - who’ll be king of the Show?

perhaps the real king won't show at all ... maybe, he's fighting his own personal demons ... or must the show must go on no matter what ...

thought-provoking!

I agree with Felix this indeed is very thought provoking.
I especially liked these two lines

"Some will stand and cheer the victor as he holds his hands up high
Some will boo and hiss and turn their backs to ask God simply...why?'

This is a very deep poem Lori, well done and well thought out, brava.
Best wishes to you and yours,
From
kay.

Lori,
This desire by mankind to show his strength in a match against another is reality and those youth are usually the ones who need to compete. I've won and lost my share of fights in my youth and now I'm quite content to sit back and laugh at the challenges. The anti-aggressive lobby will no doubt decry the basic use of physical violence but I think better controlled fighting then guns and war,
Who knows...but your poem is very thought provoking.

Well done,

Felix

A fantastic write Lori. You captured the tension, the build up and the concluded with the burning question. Who indeed will be king?
Good stuff...
