The pain of Springtime
of blooming is great
in all it's majesty
it is so natural

Poem Artwork

Today my pain is like
birth
of first born
slight hum of muscle
and sweat that sing a mighty song
of pain

that comes to me as
a new day
it stretches across my eyes
swollen
cause I knew this day was near

slowly I wake thinking
of Autumn leaves
under our feet
crisp
like the air we breathe

......now like then
your eyes wide and full
energy that can not be explained
and in a distance I hear a mighty song
that hums of muscle
sweat and pain

we done gathered round
sweet smell of chickens (from the yard)

we done gathered round
making sounds of (holdin)horns, guitars
and Aunt Gorgia sing (like Millie)

I am all the pain of Springtime
that springtime brings
everything blooming
have you seen it????
Lord the stories in our hands
and feet
in our backs and shoulders
under tons and tons
of happiness, shame
love and regrets

my mind take me to fuss fights
and serious talks
my ears hear in a distance
that humming of sweat
muscle and pain
cause now you a man.....leaving

leaving.....
....in the footsteps of Jesus
Culver
Malcolm
King Jr.
Ali
Young
Thomas
Goines
Marley

leaving......
.....in the footsteps of Abraham
Solomon
Zulu
Green

....you are leaving with roots
that are more envious than the stars
and oh so heavy they are

....you are leaving with baggage
put up in storage
striving with bill in hand

...you are leaving first born
with lil' brothers and sisters
eyes on
pressure I'm sure
tucked deep down in pocket
that you try and hide
so long

I stand alone in labor
crowded with well wishes
family friends and community
my heart sing
like our mothers before me
when we left the south
riding muscle and
sweat
pains
chuck-a-chuck-a-chuck-a-chuck-a
north
to be closer to dat star

trying to get far *

Mitzi this is deeply felt intense poem using birth
pangs as a fitting analogy when your son left.A powerful
imaginative work that points out the true anguish of
the mothers soul at the separation from her beloved son.
