Poem Artwork

I fall out of his breath in sighs
shaped from the tears he cried
fall down on my knees in despair
an angel joined me there
fingers under my chin lifting my head up in the air
heavy thoughts sealed ear unable to share
all the things that’s been going on up here
and he sighs

I fall out his breath in sighs
shaped from the tears he cried
Lord knows I tried to teach him better
show him faces for all kinds of weather
know the plan and not to let America get ya’
believe in God let thee heart be your shelter
and your mind hold it all together
and he sighs

I fall out of his breath in sighs
shaped from the tears he cried
knowing there were no reasons for the lies
knowing the love for him had filled my insides
knowing that when/how he left I wanted to die
showing the ignorance already clinging to my mind
how I said “no, no more not this time”
and she sighs and he sighs

I fall out of his breath in sighs
shaped from the tears he cried
pressure cause he has no money
straining cause he laughing noing it ain’t funny
thangs been really hard and his hands got clumsy
knowing bad as he want it I let him climb up on me
praying and hoping that what is…… won’t be
and the rain just falls upon me…..and he sighs

and I fall out of his breath in sighs
shaped from all the tears he cried
and I try to realize the things he didn’t see
the things that are the better parts of me
and I walk in the light with great confidence
and theres much trouble around but I don’t sway an inch
knowing through birth I have already paid for my future sins
and I let the rain fall upon me and again……..he sighs

I fall out of his breath in sighs
shaped from the tears he cried
born an addict cause she had to have it
and he gave and gave her the shit
that was his job and an employee habit
dats how they do the chickens, lizards and rabbits
now pressed against the glass with his wishes
he pray and he cry and he rains down on me with sighs

I fall as a child of God
I fall out his mothers hands
I fall from the pain in my mothers heart
I fall from my dads lust and in between my mothers thighs
I fall from hope
I fall out of their denial and ignorance
And I fall from sighs and exhaustion

I fall knowing there is no place to go from here but up
…..but I don’t really even know if I give a f**k

Your words rip at the very soul, yet like the life they live, a dance of beauty is left not to the page but to the mind, real is the understanding, so pure , so perfect, they scream listen, then liek the reality of society, fall on the tail of a dying star. I applaud and bow, still not honor enough. You are a great writer and a special lady indeed.. Walt

A powerful reflection on the human condition Mitzi. I loved the final stanza (well I loved it all, but especially that).

A very powerfully sad and emotional piece, Mitzi, but as you say at the end - when we fall to the bottom, there is nowhere to go but up.

Raw is not the word for the extremes of pain, power and passion that screams out of this searing write, Mitzi. I just can't breathe whilst reading it - falling out of YOUR breath whilst yet feeling totally captivated and caught up INTO it - like the tears you describe. This conjures feelings of total empathy and yet total helplessness as well. So many differing interconnecting and symbiotic relationships touched on here, so much "unhealthy" dependency in all senses. Bold, stark - but resiliant and strong with a will to overcome and break free somehow, cutting the links in the chains that bind and which bring each individual down. Just brilliant as always. You take us there and back again. Bless you - the sense of your being a "ladder" that others can perhaps "climb up to safety on" is very strong: you must be an emotional tower and a refuge. Quite a potent brew of tears and despair. It's a relief that the written lines themselves demonstrate an inspired consciousness very much at work and definitely giving a "f**k." Pain might live here big time but so do powerful healing creativity and soul-filled beauty, both of which you possess in abundance. Keep using them as wisely as you do. Peace.

THAT, damnit, is just the way that it must be for a whole lot of people. But you know, Mitzi, there IS a way out. Part if it is religion. Part of it is self-motivation. But when the InnerCityChild has none he/she looks for it elsewhere. Where? To the leaders of the InnerCityChild, but so many of the national leaders are in it for themself and really do not care about the InnerCityChild except when they are on a talk show on TV. Then they look to the athletics who do what they do and skirt the law and get away with it. And, finally, the look at the brothers on the street corners selling crack by the heartache and all that money and all that prestige, however misplaced, and they jump into the hole with a neverending bottom. You poem jolted me and I sincerely hope that you take this in the manner in which it was given. It was given out of the love and frustration of my heart for the damn dead end the InnerCityChild lives in.
