Sensing perfect Peace in the embers of a fire..

Poem Artwork

                                    Peace…perfect Peace..

A sultry Summer Eve,
glowing, burning  embers of a
sweetly perfumed wood fire
twirls wispy smoke around my hair.

The stars aligned in perfect symmetry
for this unique fragment of time
entice my heightened senses with mystery.
Their endless splendour thrills my soul
as keen thoughts blow gently away
into the stillness of the night..

A speck of sentient energy
mingling freely with the Numinous..
eternal awareness and consciousness
our assured destiny…
and
P e a c e  perfect  P e a c e….

You paint the perfect piece. For a moment the imagery took me away to a place in my own subconscious where peace was real.

You have conveyed that sense of peace so well here, Diana. These reviews tell of how effectively you have described those moments. The form and length of how you chose to craft this one surely do add to its stillness. I love the line: “as keen thoughts blow gently away”. That single line made me envision the embers drifting upward, carrying worries in their glow, and letting it be seen that those themselves vanish. It is essential that we humans go into the outdoors for solace. You’ve proven that here. Thank you ~~ the other Diana

You've captured perfectly that sense of something greater than ourselves we tap into during times in nature and sitting before a fire. A sense of connection to spirit and wonder! You describe it so simply but so beautifully.

In my experiences: Peace of mind helps protect us. It helps us overcome the problems life hands us. Peace gives us the courage to confront each day. I pray that the peace you experienced here, Diana, will be lasting and satisfying. Fine palpable imagery in this. Regards.... r

Diana, what a gift you have of describing this brief moment in time, where all seems tranquil to the point of sensing your eternal destiny of perfect peace. I, too, have gazed into the flames of an open fire, and for a “fragment of time” escaped my immediate surroundings and entered the promise of eternal calmness. At times, I have sat and stared into the ocean waves rippling to shore and experienced the same.

A timely poem that does exactly what a poem should do, namely, invoke the feelings of serenity and peace in an era uniquely lacking in these qualities. Beautifully executed.

Although it is not stated as such here, this paints a perfect mind-image of the ancient and traditional 'Mid-summer' (solstice) occasion in June, celebrated throughout Europe. I well recall attending this event in both Sweden and Finland and there was something indeed ethereal and transcendent about it and the huge celebratory bonfire all gather around. Your piece, however serene in its evocative imagery, bespeaks a hope (there's that perfidious word 'hope' again) for something that I feel is sadly beyond the range of our possible, attainable realities, given present world-wide tragic events, indicating that humanity seems poised on the verge of a terminal collective meltdown (both socially and geophysically). I once entertained such dreams of serenity, but 7 decades of encounters with real life have sadly banished such idealistic fantasies utterly for me. As Dante so perfectly stated it, "Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate"... which should be the motto of all human beings when they are born into this treacherously disallusioning state of existence known as 'the human experience'. -K2

There certainly is a great sense of peace watching the dying embers of a fire in the night. Perhaps a time to crawl under the covers and get to sleep, sweet sleep.

The mood comes through beautifully in this, very peaceful, poem.
