Go to the coast, keep hearing. Sea air
braces. Salt stinging your eyes
and sand gritting your crotch bound
to remind that it was not you who died.
Rains, always curl up and read. This
smacks of hounding, we're winging it
here. Because we care. Thinking of
screenprinting tee shirts that say
Dead or Alive, luv. Dead or Alive.
Keep hearing "think." What I think is, why
get out of bed, far less fight traffic? Beach
was ours! Still hear surf pound as we
experiment with positions that are easy
on sun- and wind-stung flesh. We're in
the top-knot of a cottage we were lucky
enough to find. Between, we surf-fish
for spot we throw back. Fish market
sole crisped by sizzling Crisco tops.
Bless every moonlit stroll. All the silver,
all the shimmer. Mother-of-pearl layering
a wedding cake sky as we make out behind
a big dune. Where are the signs? Tide
comes in, tide goes out. Watch ourselves
do impressions with our feet, then the sand
is flat. Your long second toes? Erased.
Spur on my left heel? Erased. Everything us.
Waves still wash away the good with the bad.
Don't tell me they don't. Water still levels,
right? With you, it was easy to believe that
the slap of a wave was applause. Let cynics
hiss and hawk. Bubble we were in sprang
a leak or three, who cared. Roar the sea
and us laughing at the very idea we could
break like dried and stepped-on shells.
Yes, our linked hands and bumping hips
were as a sail was to wind. Roars could be
conceived as warnings. Shards that cut
through my sandals, leaving blood that
attracted gulls. Crabs sidled up. Wouldn't
be surprised if a shark got a whiff and
ventured near. You did not die at the beach.
You did not die. Go back, maybe I'll find you
waiting in a top-knot, all grit an' grin.
Be shedding your trunks. All right!

THE COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED...THOUGHT IMPOSSIBLE THING...HAPPENED...AT THE BEACH AND ONE IS LEFT WITH THE MEMORY...THE HEARTBREAK WITH THE LOST OF ONE DEEPLY CARED FOR, MAKES ONE FEEL LIKE THEY DIED. DONE EXTREMELY WELL AND THANKS FOR SHARING. BLESSINGS.

I don't care where you are calling from, please, do not hang up -- the surf's tingling fingers sliding, caressing down the sides of two lovers -- how romantic is that -- how much more romantic do you want to be? -- this soujourning mind of yours creates great poetry -- so just have at it full on -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael
I love how your mind
cogitates and constructs
and paints in little vignette's
sweet pea.
And guess where I'm writing from?
Vancouver Island ... On Ha Ha Holiday!

What a great and hilarious write! / It was almost tongue-in-cheek, well, I assume that you a tongue in that cheek / It was almost stark reality / Put the two together and you have something which demands that you STAND, take a bow and check out the trunkless audience as they clap their . . . er . . . hands . . .
I don't care where you're calling me from, just call me! But if it's the beach - hold on, got to get my swimmy suit and a towel: LOL (Oh, how I wish.) Love, love, love the imagery you paint on my eyes, my ears, my tongue: shoot, A L L of the senses come into play reading these delightful, delicious lines.
And yet, and yet: I detect an undercurrent of fear on the salt air of these words. Of impending loss. Particularly in the last stanza: the cut glass. The crabs. The might-be shark. Are you okay??
Here be the waves, and they be applauding you: hear the standing ovation? - because THIS is poetry. Thanks for this one, (((Pea))): take a bow. Brava: encore! My new favorite of yours (out of m o s t).
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
