Gray. Not blue. Gray. Like a chill.
Like a drift. This is not S.A.D.
This is sad. Don’t raft with the flow,
suck you under. Alcoholics Anonymous
prayer says it: accept what will not
change. Every December in much of
the so-called First World, false cheer
Super-Glu’s glitter and spritzes fake
pine, inviting us to believe what we see,
hear, and smell is what we need. All-?
Meanwhile, on the other side of a tree
topped by a twig-contorting paper angel
or attic-wrangled metal star, a manger
seeks to remind of a golden rule. That
unadulterated and unperverted, Christianity,
Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism,
Islam, Judaism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism
all depend at core on the belief that if there
is an Answer, it is turn the other cheek..
Look at what Gandhi achieved. The most
violence Christ committed was to chase
money-gougers off steps. Only curse
to yell they were vipers. To believe he
believed himself any part of a god that
robbed, maimed, and killed, or dozed On
High while creatures of his making did –
with his blessing, yet -- makes as much
sense as the loss that has me in tears.
Tears will pass, but do not ask me to live
\in a world ruled by a monster that watches
as food and drinkable water are denied
and home is a carton or underpass and
the rights to speak and work and be treated
equably and have one’s choices respected
are trampled under and flies feast on children
with bulging eyes and protruding ribs while
mothers with empty breasts and eyes suffer
on. Unlimited power would mean rape,
murder, disease, government and corporate
chicanery and all the everyday paper cuts
and worse that come of being born without
special privilege are deliberate! N e v e r
would I choose to be ruled by such a beast.
Looking up, I see a pencil-thin line of rose
lighting the gray. Feel a flicker of warmth?
Faith in us – the humble, the imperfect, the
make-do-and-do-our-best-to-give-and-receive
with generosity and grace is adding color,
I believe. Will it spread? Always hope.

Phyliss Jean, it is as true today as it was two milena ago -- and I quote, "on that first Christmas eve - so long ago - the light of love began to grow" -- the evil of mankind will not endure, the love of Christ will -- may peace love and joy walk with you this day my friend -- Jon Michael
You begin with gray flickers of awareness and fan them into brilliant flames of committed consciousness. The work of the literary artist--such as that which you are--stands apart from those who govern hierarchies for the sake of amassing power or wealth or simply to serve individual egos. Each line of WAITING OUT FOG blesses the reader with beauty in the midst of horror and love for humanity in the face of deadly indifference. Much gratitude for the wonderful holiday read...

It is going to get much, much worse before sanity takes over . . .
It saddens me as more and more poets are inspired to write of the decline of a generation in such an inglorious manner. We as poets and writers tend to see and phropecize the nature of our world before others often grasp it and sadly more and more we write of our uimpending doom. Your write here is profound but also offers a small glimmer of hope, perhaps if we write enough and speak out enough we can make a difference. Well done pea,

PROFOUNDLY penned ... all we have is hope. Everything else seems to be being taken away, including our right to speak and rail at the injustices of this cold, cruel world. Why little ones suffer. Why those who defend their country are being denied promises made. Why the elderly are being forced to decide which to do this month: pay bills, eat, or take medicine. S o o o o sad. I'm looking toward the Son ... only hope I have now. Well penned, my friend.
