I have read your first letters and with such an abundance of enthusiasm that I have nary the time to sit at the kitchen table for sustenance. I arose in the wee hours pondering your whereabouts and I therefore stolidly gazed upon a distant constellation in search of a suitable star within. One that I could assure myself I would find again when the night was clear to dedicate to you. One that I would be certain could not be found by another as I wished upon it in your name. I prayed upon that star and its bold light that it would still be there until our passing. One that we, in our hour of need, could rely upon when parted by such distance and time. One in which we could divulge, in secrecy, all our aspirations and desires and with only the utmost confidence.
I regard you in my peripheral moments with a joyous heart and fear not I least forget you in my sleep. It is only with pure diligence that I keep you and your soft words close to my breast and minds eye. Therefore I am indubitably locked forever in such aspiration of your hearts favored reception. Wherever you may go so shall I follow. In the green pastures that you have occupied and graced, so shall I tread. I hold in my being the essence of your spirit unscathed and revered with exquisite care as gentle as a fragile bird at the end of its flight. It was not captured by my hand but by my mind’s eye as it landed before me and unfolded its wings in repose. I felt the vibrations of your secrets as they pierced the night air and played softly upon my ear as elegantly as a violin crafted by heaven’s own. It was in your presence that your echoes reached out to me with such tenderness in its grasp. I was bewildered by how elegantly you have touched my soul and inevitably attracted the response of my purpose. You have taken me by the hand and I sincerely took that in my heart to mean that you may be my teacher in life. I have resolved to learn your manners and ways to become like your voice here on this misfortunate planet. With your writing I shall never be alone again even unto my surmise, as I know I am securely cradled in your gentle arms. You are my mentor as I am your student and I shall endeavor to elevate and sustain your gentle words to the meek and humble in heart and spirit via my utmost dedication.
I agree with Gene's beautiful comment. The writing is exquisite and your admiration for Emily's poetry is declared with passion and elegance. Somehow, I wish she could read it...
I would say, Amor, that you have learned oh so well
the manners and ways of the remarkable Ms. Dickinson.
Consequently, the writing is superb. This is not the
kind of letter that one writes--but lives. -gene.
Your letter has all the emotion and imagination of a 19th century love at long distance. True to form style, is mesmerizing. If Emily were alive, she would swoon.
Amor, for the most part, you use the same words as the rest of us, but somehow you're able to twist and turn them into a much nicer work of art than the majority of us are able to conjure up. Much applause.... Thanks Dick
At first I thought that this letter was more prose than poem, but as I read it I understood that it is indeed poetry in its finest form!
I have never seen this done, but you have pulled this off so gloriously that you inspire my muse as I ponder this work.
She was a most remarkable poetess indeed! And furthermore, I was earlier in today curled up on the couch with "The Complete Works of Emily Dickinson"!
Blessings,
Christine
YOUR ADMIRATION FOR MS DICKINSON IS OBVIOUS AND ISN'T IT WONDERFUL TO KNOW...THAT THE SAME GOD THAT GIFTED HER HAS ALSO GIFTED YOU. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...
