I have often wondered
When one first falls
In love
The yearning
Felt
From both parties
Never thinking
It would leave
Someday
You know
Where this is leading
A loveless marriage
With no intimacy
The romance
Got lost among
The arguments, mistakes
And accusations
Take its toll-
Once very much in love
They never grew
Became strangers-
A disposable love

I agree with Regis: universal and timeless...great poem!
Ah! this incredible good chemistry of human attraction...the earth-moving phenomenon and a lighting struck sensation...still need a lot of time and work to develop into long lasting un-disposable love...
Thank you Deborah for your strongly appreciated analysis of human relationship...
"A loveless marriage with no intimacy" - oh that's really bad when that happens. I'm glad my marriage is filled with love, intimacy, and sentiments. I thank God for my WONDERFUL hubby and my 3 beautiful children everyday!
Sometimes even working at a marriage can be one sided. There are so many different situations to consider here. I certainly can relate to your poem, Deborah, in any case.
Sadly, the theme that you express via your verses here is a universal and seemingly timeless one in this life/world. I am intimate with what you have shared here, Deborah. Love and best wishes to you,
You betcha, Deborah, it is epidemic in nature. Once married things change. Courtship is over. Now it is time to "work" at the marriage. Some guys and gals just do not understand that.
The deep-dive literary meditations presented as stories, poems, and essays in The American Poet Who Went Home Again, A Mosaic of My Soul at Work, have captivated and inspired readers ever since its first paperback publication in 2008.
