Where, the Hopeless Romantic?

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Some of the infinite sources that stoke the fire of the romantic become compelling this time of year. Something about the air, the modest twinkle of lights (where and when modesty of decoration can be found) and the sense of gratefulness amidst the rubble of progress. My reputation of skepticism precedes me, but of love? Such positive resonance would be hard to recognize without the experience of despair's silence.

Where, the Hopeless Romantic?
by Odin Roark

Here, where the roll from my pillow reveals the rising sun beside me.
There, where our hands and arms toil to make glow the dank chores of everyday
So that full moons will always rise
And clouds will always be ignored.

Even as hope and despair crowd the horizon for dominance,
So too will the strains of a saxophone
Fill the drifting air and push away all doubt.

Where, the hopeless romantic?

Everywhere.

For nothing is as it seems,
But is as one wishes it.
Wars and poverty will always be,
But scrims of the mind can make soft the reality of the day.

For just as shards of broken dreams will pierce if allowed,
And attachment to past disappointments
Will always cry out for attention,
Allowing the smell of gardenias,
The sound of pinecones falling upon soft needles,
The sight of ocean's foam cascading upon us
While tasting the salt of forever's forever.

The touch of passion's grace
Will always free the hopeless romantic
To know of tomorrow's waiting
For yet further tomorrows,
Embraced with the effervescent
Now of love.

For my view I see it as living in hope, but also a dream world that keeps one alive. Unfortunately, and my perspective only, often once the phase of romanticism has waned you are left with two personalities. Now if the two souls are strong they can keep it alive and all hope this. But reality for most is we tend to fall back into our own routines.

Ah but how beautiful to dream and hope of savoring "the salt of forever's forever"

I write a variety of prose, but yours are so thought provoking. I look forward to each one you post.

I am a gabby one aren't I?

I had to look up scrims, but open-weave of fabric of the mind making soft reality is intently prime choice...and the comradery of hands and arms together working to "...make glow the dank chores" is romantic no matter what age, gender or relations are those hands. You could not have chosen a more aromatic flower than the gardenia, and "forever's forever" -- I enjoy nouns being modified by adverbs of the same word in adjective's clothing. There should be more of that. This is an elegant sweep into the summer-svelt air, Odin. ~~ Diana
