Heart

Can an enigma be weighed?

Many would hold the heavy heart
Is indeed noticeably of greater weight

And yet…

What can the heart do
When all its wishes is respect
As real
As both tangible
And insoluble?

The heart has few friends
Its bodyguards
Lung left
Lung right
Hold 24/7 vigils
Knowing without aeration
Man’s lifeline is severed

Storms
Good times
Makes no difference
Pumping continues
The gasp of birth
Forever faithful

Still

Comes hurt
Comes denial
Come battles lost
Our hearts panic
Asking lungs
To take the bullet

Like mothers
Fathers
Secret Service
Internal instincts
Obviate thinking
Risk death at any cost

So goes the miraculous nature
Safeguarding the one institutional identity
One can really trust

Life’s experience
Most likely has no measurement
But we know heavy
Don’t we?

We have to have heart, and that is truer than just a concept. For when that little ticker doesn't work well, we have more than a heavy heart, we have been intending catastrophe that only a pacemaker can alleviate.

But we all know that a heavy heart is a emotional condition that we can snap out of at any time. I never carry a heavy heart for long.

Your saying of it certainly has weight. I worry that we're ready for any messianic druggist's voice who can lift our spirits, but do not forget that only 30 years ago we got one who led us here. In the end, or is it the beginning, don't we have to lift our own hearts? Don't you help another do just that?

I see the chorus is here in attendance with pithy comments. Heavy lies in weight for solace it can find, deflecting that bullet.

Indeed we do know heavy. It is my observation (sadly not yet my experience)that the weight does not lessen, but it can be counter balanced, if one is very lucky.
