Spatter Life

Perhaps the secret of longevity is knowing a quantitative life is but an acquiescence to answers. (painting by Hua Tunan)

Poem Artwork
Spatter Life
by Odin Roark

Like a Pollock effort
Life’s trickle lingers
Spatterings for some
Droplets of wisdom for others

Some see their canvas
Ever chaotic
Others see such randomness
Mere precursor
Conundrums seeking resolve

How mysterious
Freedom’s range
Arching up
Down
Across
Seemingly disjointed
Never compass wanting

Yet

Color identifies purpose
Chance our challenge
Abstract our teacher
Rendering falsehood defenseless

Taking your own hand…

Peer into the swirling mix
The vortex that defies semblance
For you
And you alone
Possesses your truth

There
As others might pass judgment
Like all of nature’s honesty
Your rarity fathoms tumult
Sending falsehood’s incursion
Scurrying away

Spatter life
A breed that thrives
Knowing outcome
Is short-lived
That one’s discovery is infinite
Forever fulfilling
Creation's error-laden search

For the photo realist, persona is fixed in the precision, and so too a random state of being exists in its antithesis. M.True

It feels to me that you deeply identify with this painting, as do I. It seems alive! I like your choice of 'spatter', so very different from 'splatter,' your second stanza containing for me senseless/and reason = unaccepted senselessness. "Arching up/Down/Across" very commensurate with what this piece of art does. This time I have six favorite lines: "How mysterious/Freedom's range," "Never compass wanting," "Rendering falsehood defenseless" and "Like all of nature's honesty/Your rarity fathoms tumult." So enjoy sharpening myself (like a pencil) to take on your poetry. ~~ Diana

Nature is well ordered and precise. In our hunter and gathering days, following exact patterns of living was necessary for survival. Today we can spend ourselves very thin and still survive on the lifelines that are ever present. As a result we can splatter our lives all over the place, accomplishing nothing and still survive.

Mankind forever seeks to undo what we call the mysteries of life through the arts and self examination. One man's art is another man's garbage. Still, as you penned, if we keep our truth nothing else really matters.
