Identity Longing
by Odin Roark
Perplexing
One of us?
One of them?
3 AM
Catastrophic earth shaking
Windows breaking
Walls cracking
Escaping crumbling brick building
Seeing
Local grocer
Grumpy old man
Won’t sell alcohol
Won’t speak to marginals
Sits down
Beside transvestite
Wearing long black wig
Cheap mascara
Running down cheeks
Being
Old man with trembling hand
Opens pack of cigarettes
Offers one to her
She accepts
Sharing
A conservative grocer
Crying transvestite
Together on the broken curb
Smoking in the face of death
Mundane differences
Evaporating
Becoming as one
If only for a few hours
Identity longing
Singularity’s pluralism
So good to read you again :)

These are triumphic moments of humankind's potential spread over our existence in bits and pieces. I wish we could hold on to such moments.
Excellent poem ... so real and so relevant ...
