Trial of a Teardrop Revisited
by Odin Roark
How guarded we stand
To protect our buried teardrops,
Wanting out from imprisoned feelings,
Desperately battling our adult opposition
For its natural journey to the top.
Reasoning guards its check points.
Rational resistance gives momentary pause,
as confused muscles await the exchange
before molten passions reignite its fire.
Rushing toward liberation,
calm and peace await as
strength’s shuttered windows collapse,
eruptive laughter weeps,
and grievance finds celebration.
Such is the journey of one’s teardrop,
the perpetual child in us all,
forever rekindling fires of our innocence.
