Tears Ever of War

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With today’s war-drenched headlines, it’s easy to identify with what the media labels conflict. But what about our own personal battles? Those often disappointing efforts to exist with dignity. At times, it seems so simple…this addressing of the conundrum existentialists deemed unsolvable…the meaning of life. (Image by Galducci)

Tears Ever of War
by Odin Roark

What is this creeping quietness of eruption,
this stifled resonance of tremors below,
seeping from glistening ducts its sterile cries,
littering the face of self-loathing guilt,
with the quiet pain seeking freedom
to be that which it longs to be… calming peace?

It is not a thing, this focus.

It is what living is truly all about,
the oft time grasp to just-plain-meet-and-know-life,
before it’s too late.

So…

When?

It's hard to know that we're even in need of a cry in this desperation about what's to become of all these wars, orphans, widows, permanent camps because they cannot go home, ever. The appropriate response is to cry, but we try to fight it usually until one final piece of information or visual reminder, sucker punches us in the gut and we can't help it anymore. Can tears bring peace. Not that this reader has experienced. It's more a release from suffering overload, only temporary, waiting for the next thing piled onto our conscience. If we could all cry at once, disarmed, there might be peace, but when indeed.

Thanks for sharing. D
