A recent Gallop Poll revealed the following:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Record percentages of Americans are concerned about global warming, believe it is occurring, consider it a serious threat and say it is caused by human activity. All of these perceptions are up significantly from 2015.
-Americans worrying a great deal up eight percentage points to 45%
-New high of 62% says effects of global warming are happening now
-Belief that global warming poses a serious threat stretches to 42%
In a year of record global temperatures and out of control fires in Greece and California, one has to wonder whether sentience and reason are both going up in smoke as well.

Firenado’s Icy Chill
The tomorrows of history…
Nature’s insistence will once again
remind all of her paradoxical essence,
even as children holding tight a balloon’s innocent color red
will have yet to experience red’s ferocity.
They’ll giggle at empty soup cans tied to a hover-car,
Ooh and ah at Cirque du Soleil performed in virtual reality,
Gaze blankly at android sparrows chirping atop alloy trees
that know not of leaves,
all as their planet grieves over never being what it once was.
The continual denying of climate change
will bring us more of heat’s anger with firenado flames,
iceberg flooding,
record heat in the winter,
frigid cold in the summer,
a true apocalyptic scenario
as our species competes for money and power,
while ignoring the price its toll on Nature.
Yes…
There will be a few conscious survivors,
those that will read stories to children of all ages,
giving historical narratives to the structures
still standing with colors of other-world red, orange and black,
half shadowed by any day’s every day
of smoke or ominous roiling tempests,
where building-windows long ago exploded by heat,
their doorways ever waiting for closure,
await the final blow.
Such is Nature’s wrath
when ignorance of her fragility dominates conscience,
when control is wrenched from her grip,
in the name of a species pandemic of greed over integrity,
instant gratification over long-term reward,
where a once aware humanity is reduced to agony and bereavement
in the name of mind/heart darkness.
In April, my brother lost his dream mountain retreat in Arizona to the Tinder Fire.
I recount massive fires that burn the entire continent (and world) when society breaks down and global warming droughts dry everything to the point of combustion in the first two chapters of my novel being written and posted here, The Last Wanderer.
Thank you for your effort through this poem, but I wonder when will we have the moral courage and political will to overcome the corporations that now want to control the facts and continue the damage so that they can show yearly profits to their stockholders. We have to divest in those companies and invest in better ways.

Love ya!
