Shadow's Reality

We sometimes take shadows for granted. Perhaps, there’s more to the mystery. (Image by Laurie Marie)

Shadow’s Reality

A child’s imagination holds light’s oft guised presence in wonder
as adults recklessly consume its flame of spirit and heart.
Left behind are ashes of once conscious pursuits,
now reduced to icy coals of ignorance
once the far-off enemy of reason.

Why for some of us…

Do our innately wired candles
desperately protect the threatened glow,
while ravenous junk-hunger continues insatiate,
stretching, invading, smothering
life’s illuminative entitlement and privilege.

As the nescient pandemic rages,
Nature’s glimmer fights back,
casting ever-faithful shadows at first,
preparing for revealing time,
inviting children with dreams

to enjoin as companion and buddy
while unsullied conscience finds continuance,
reaching for its rightful chance.

Happily…

Enough will discover light’s natural purpose,
its perseverance in gradually presenting epiphany’s overhead moment,
when the undeniable becomes a singular reality,
when shadow magic is embraced,
even as adulthood often threatens imagination
into an acquiescent and shadowless landscape.

Lest one forgets…

Shadows are Nature’s means of silhouetting reality,

Light’s reflection of what is merely waiting to be discovered.

I have never taken shadows for granted. Years ago I was obsessed with them for a season. My wife and I have hundreds of digital images of shadows. Shadows cannot exist without light. In that fact is a stunning spiritual truth that I grasped as a young child. Enjoyed this exploration, Odin. Well done. Peace... r

I love shadows also, Odin, and have throughout my life. Sometimes they can be ominous, but for the most part they give us a calming effect.

I think you are on to something. There is much to be learned from shadows, as your poem amply shows.

Shadow magic! I was doing rabbits and stuff on the wall for the little guy just the other night! He loved it. When he was crawling I would watch him watching his own shadow laughing with glee!

"even as adulthood often threatens imagination".......sad to see it happen.

Outstanding write in every way!

Love ya!

Jane
